Sri Lanka have appointed for Surrey team director Chris Adams as a consultant for their tour of England next month, banking on his local knowledge to make up for the gap left by former coach Paul Farbrace.

With new coach Marvan Atapattu installed as of last week, Sri Lanka needed someone to show them the ropes in England after Farbrace left them just weeks before the tour in order to become England's assistant coach.

An SLC statement read: "The executive committee further approved the recommendation made by SLC's chairman cricket committee, chairman selection committee and head of coaching to appoint former Sussex captain and former Surrey coach Chris Adams as a consultant for the upcoming tour of England."

With Farbrace's knowledge of the Sri Lanka team sure to come in handy for England, Adams' experience with head coach Peter Moores will surely be valuable too, given they worked together at Sussex a decade ago.
