The Sri Lanka tour to Zimbabwe in October and November appears to be in doubt, after Sri Lanka officials revealed that the African side had asked for a postponement, but had not divulged the reasons for the request.
Sri Lanka would be the third country to tour Zimbabwe in the past few months, with India there recently and Pakistan currently on tour in the country. It is thought that Zimbabwe Cricket may not have the money to host another series.
Nishantha Ranatunga, secretary of SLC, said: "We received an e-mail from the Zimbabwe Cricket Union seeking a postponement of the tour and the reason given was 'due to unavoidable circumstances'.
"No further reasons were given by the Zimbabwe Cricket Union and we are awaiting further clarification on this matter."
Zimbabwe's top brass seemed to play down the matter though, with MD Wilfred Mukondiwa telling Cricinfo: "We are in negotiations with Sri Lanka. We are always talking to other home boards, that is the normal course of business.
"At the opportune time, and when I have heard back from my Sri Lankan colleagues, we will make an announcement."
The series is due to feature two Tests, three ODIs and two T20s, and is due to begin on 4 October.
