South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn is set to appear in a Hollywood movie alongside Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, after spending time in Los Angeles with the actors and filming a small part in their new venture.
Steyn will, not surprisingly, play himself, a South African cricketer who helps Sandler's character's son. The film is called Family Moon, and also features NBA legend Shaquille O'Neil.
The Proteas paceman said on Sport24 of his trip to Hollywood: "The whole thing was amazing. Adam was great. He really made me feel welcome. They all did.
"The team at Warner Brothers and Happy Madison Productions were so friendly and professional.
"It was also great meeting people like Drew Barrymore and Shaq O'Neil. Shaq is huge. I come up to his shoulder."
As for his actual role, Steyn explained: "I have to pitch/bowl to Drew's son, whom Adam is coaching.
"In typical Adam Sandler style, we have a few issues as I bounce the ball instead of pitching over the plate. It's going to be very funny."
Steyn had the time to do the project as he was injured and could not take part in the limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka. He is set to return to the side in October, when the Proteas face Pakistan in the UAE.
Sandler has a history of making sport-related films, most famously the golfing caper Happy Gilmore. He also starred in The Longest Yard, the 2005 remake about prisoners who play American Football, no doubt drawing online football betting fans to the cinema in droves.
