Thakur included in India Test squad

Shardal Thakur's role in Mumbai's successful Ranji Trophy campaign has been rewarded with a spot in the India Test squad travelling to the West Indies in July.

The right-arm seamer was joint-top wicket-taker in the Indian first-class competition, this season, and his tournament average of 20.81 was crucial in helping his team to their 41st title.

Thakur's rapid improvement since making his first-class debut, his aggressive demeanour and the away-movement he gets at pace means he is likely to play a significant role in India's Test future.

The West Indies tour consists of four Test matches, and is scheduled to start in July and extending into August, after the ODI and T20 tour to Zimbabwe in June.

Virat Kohli retains his captaincy while Ajinkya Rahane takes over the reins as vice-captain.

Squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Stuart Binny.
