Tharanga recalled for ODIs, Chandimal dropped

Sri Lanka have dropped wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal for the first two one-dayers against South Africa at home, after he failed to score meaningful runs in the ODI series in England.
Chandimal was the main player dropped, while Chaturanga de Silva was also cut from the side that played in the UK. The pair made way for batsmen Kithruwan Vithangae and Upul Tharanga.
Tharanga had been dropped after the ODI in Dublin against Ireland, and that was his sole one-dayer in a year, while Vithanage did not crack the nod to tour England. Since then he has been playing domestic T20 cricket, but top scoring with 44.
Otherwise, fast bowler Suranga Lakmal makes a return after missing the most of the England tour due to injury. He injured his hamstring in the opening ODI of that trip, and was replaced by Dhammika Prasad, who has not been retained.
Spinner Sachithra Senanayake was included, despite being reported to the ICC during the England tour for a suspect action, while opener Kusal Perera will be monitored for fitness.
Sri Lanka team manager Michael de Zoysa said: "Kusal has some tightness behind the knee. It is something he picked up during the domestic T20 matches.
"He will undergo a fitness test on Friday, but it is nothing serious."
Squad: Angelo Mathews (capt), Lahiru Thirimanne (vc), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kusal Perera, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Kithuruwan Vithanage, Ashan Priyanjan, Upul Tharanga, Sachithra Senanayake, Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Suranga Lakmal.
