Topley, Vince called to England T20 squad

England

England have named a 13-man squad for the only T20 against New Zealand next week, with fast bowler Reece Topley getting his first call-up, while Hampshire batsman James Vince has also been added.

The squad is a young one, with five uncapped T20 players, including Sam Billings, David Willey and MArk Wood. Those three have been playing in the ODI series against the Black Caps though.

Topley's call up is a welcome one for the 21-year-old, as his progress to the senior side has been hampered by repeated back injuries over the past two years, preventing him from impressing with the Lions.

National selector, James Whitaker, said: "This match against New Zealand allows us another opportunity to look at players relatively new to international cricket as we look to build a squad for the World T20 in India this winter.

"The squad is made up of players who have demonstrated their ability in domestic cricket and fully deserve a chance to continue their progress against a very good New Zealand side.

"We have already seen our limited overs cricket begin to move in the right direction which is exciting but we are all aware that we have plenty more to do if we are going to challenge the very best sides in the world on a regular basis."

England Squad: Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Steve Finn, Alex Hales, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, James Vince, David Willey, Mark Wood.
