Tweets of the Week: A bunch of Mama’s boys

With Mother’s Day being celebrated on Sunday, cricketers around the globe composed tributes to their moms and wives, with many away from home on the day doing duty in the IPL.

Here are some grammatically atrocious, yet emotionally rewarding, Tweets. It’s not Mother’s Day in the UK, in case you’re wondering about the lack of England players here.

Aussie fast bowler Peter Siddle put up a note to his other half, signing if from their pooches: “Happy Mothers Day annaweatherlake. Hurry Up and get home! Love Axel and Oscar xx”

Oz opener Aaron Finch, away in India, wrote: “Happy Mothers Day to my beautiful mother! Such an amazing woman. Hope everyone has a great day with family today.”

His team mate David Warner, also in India, put up a picture with his mum, saying: “Happy Mother’s Day to my lovely mother Lorraine. Have been blessed to have such a wonderful lady look after me for all these years. Love you”

This year’s IPL star Glenn Maxwell, also missed his mom, writing: “happy mothers day to my amazing mother @joy_maxi! Can’t wait to give you a big hug when I get home! #mummasboy”

Shane Watson, playing for Rajasthan, wrote to his wife and son back in Oz: “Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife. Wish I was with my little boy sharing such a special day…”

David Hussey, on commentary duty this year, quipped: “Happy mothers’ day to all mums! Us fathers probably don’t show it but we really do think you’re amazing. Hope the chocolates are delicious.”

South Africa paceman Dale Steyn put up a newspaper clipping of him scoring 116 as a youngster, adding: “Oh shit, no he didaaaaaaant… Translation, smoked 116 not out! Yes it’s Mothers Day, here’s to u Mom! Making u proud! #2excited2waitTillThursday”

Former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis tweeted: “Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there. Hope you all getting spoilt today.”

Proteas seamer Chris Morris sweetly wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day to the greatest, most kind and coolest Lady I know! Love you Mom!”

Big hitter Roelof van der Merwe was so excited to tweet he didn’t check his spelling: “Happy morhers day to every mom out there and have an awesome day!#coffeeinbed”

Wayne Parnell shouted his love from the rooftops: “HEAVEN LIES BENEATH THE FEET OF OUR MOTHERS #HappyMothersDay” while Henry Davids kept it short and sweet: “Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms out there”

Up and coming fast bowler Beuran Hendricks wrote from his India adventure: “Happy Mother’s Day to all moms.. Especially my beautiful and special mother.. Have a wonderful day”

KXIP star David Miller also sent his love from across the globe: “Happy Mothers Day to the best mum ever.! Love you so much. #HMD”

JP Duminy put up a picture of his mom, with a long missive: “Happy Mother’s Day to all moms out there, a special mention to @junitabe for all the sacrifices u hav made for me. Proteas paceman Vernon Philander was pleased to be at home: “Happy Mothersday to all you wonderful moms out there. Time to spoil my very own mom today. Have a blessed day all. #Love”

Former Zimbabwe player, more famously a commentator, Pommie Mbangwa tweeted: “To all moms out there, you are precious, important and special…you always will be. Thank you. Have a lovely day. #HappyMothersDay”

Former West Indies Test all-rounder Darren Sammy put up a picture and this message: “#HappyMothersDay to all the mothers in this world but especially to the one and only Clara aka Worldbest Sammy.#loveUMum”

Windies paceman Jason Holder tweeted: “Happy Mother’s day to all the wonderful mothers out there. May you guys have a wonderful day spread with love.#SuperMoms”

India batsman Rohit Sharma typed: “Happy Mothers Day to my beautiful mother! Such an amazing woman. Hope everyone has a great day with family today.”
