Vettori eyes World Cup berth
A prolific Test career has all but come to an end, but veteran all-rounder Daniel Vettori is determined to secure a berth in New Zealand’s squad for next year’s World Cup.
Vettori has not played international cricket since June 2013 due to injury – and recently withdrew from the Northern Districts’ squad for the ongoing Champions League Twenty20.
“Test cricket is not at the forefront of my mind. I cannot guarantee the amount of overs required to play a Test match and don’t want to get in way of Ish Sodhi and Mark Craig in their development. It’s definitely on the back burner,” Vettori told the Herald.
The Black Caps have been pooled with England, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Scotland at next year’s ODI showpiece. “The World Cup’s the goal. Tests would put too much of a strain on the body at this stage of my career,” added Vettori.
