Voges: Test career may be over

Veteran Australia batsman Adam Voges admits that his international career may be over after missing the final Test against South Africa due to concussion.

The 37-year-old Voges, who only made his Test debut in 2015 after playing 160 first-class matches, was struck on the head by a bouncer in a domestic game and missed out on a spot in the Aussie side for the recent pink ball Test against Proteas in Adelaide.

The right-handed batsman’s place in the team was already under scrutiny as he endured a poor run of form against the visitors in the first two matches, only scoring 30 runs in four innings as the Baggy Greens lost the three-match series.

There was wholesale changes made for the final Test and it is unclear if Voges would have kept his place if he had been fit.

Voges was quoted as saying on news.com.au: “I think it’s going to be tough, to be honest. I always felt that at my age if I missed any games through injury or form, getting my spot back was always going to be tough.

“It is what it is. I’m just looking forward to playing for Western Australia.”

If it is indeed the end Voges’ Test career he would bow out of international cricket with an incredible batting average of 61.87 after 20 Tests.
