Wasim backs Bayliss to thrive in Ashes

Pakistan legend Wasim Akram is sure Trevor Bayliss will have a positive impact on the England team when he starts his tenure as coach ahead of the Ashes against Australia, which gets underway next month.

Wasim, who has been the bowling coach while Australian Bayliss was in charge ot the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, says the former New South Wales mentor's experience will help the Three Lions in the Ashes.

The 104 Test-capped Wasim said: "Bayliss keeps it simple and his coaching module is very impressive. At this level it should always be simple and Bayliss keeps it that way and I am sure his experience with Sri Lanka and New South Wales will help him in the Ashes.

"I am sure he will give a positive mindset to England besides spicing it with the Australian touch of aggression and that will make the Ashes more competitive. I am sure it will not be a one-sided affair."

Wasim did however add that Australia, who won the last Ashes five-nil, will start as the favourites.

He added: "There is no doubt Australia start as favourites because they have bowlers who can bowl at 145kph and that gives them an edge.

"England will have to play out of their skins and they are rebuilding the side which will face tough times against Australia and it will be necessary to be at your best every hour and every session because Australia always play tough."

The Ashes series starts on 8 July with the first Test taking place in Cardiff.
