WATCH: Jofra Archer takes his maiden Test wicket
Has there ever been as much hype surrounding an English Test debut in recent times? Kevin Pietersen in 2005? Perhaps. Graeme Hick in 1991? Potentially. But even they didn’t have the whole weight of a nation’s cricketing hopes thrust upon their broad shoulders in the way that Archer has.
Archer, though, can handle it. The World Cup showed us that and you’d be hard pressed to find even one person within the cricketing world that doesn’t believe that the Barbadian-born speedster will be an immediate Test sensation.
And so it proved. Archer’s first victim in the longer format was Aussie opener Cameron Bancroft as you can view below.
Jofra Archer's 1⃣st Test wicket! 🏏
Bancroft plays back to a delivery that moves back and hits the batsman above the knee roll – umpire Aleem Dar gives it out. It's marginal but out.

The seamer’s figures before rain halted play were 1 for 18 from 13 overs with six maidens at an Anderson-esque economy rate of 1.38.
Rarely has our Ashes hopes relied so strongly on one who has such little experience, but rarely have we been as confident that the said man will succeed regardless.
