Worcestershire lose Ajmal, sign Senanayake

English county side Worcestershire have moved swiftly to find an early season overseas player replacement for Saeed Ajmal by signing Sri Lankan spinner Sachithra Senanayake subject to a visa approval.
Pakistan spinner Ajmal was to be the club's overseas player but he was selected in is national team's squad, for all three formats, for their tour of Bangladesh later this month.
The 30-year-old Senanayake has played in 45 ODIs, 17 T20 internationals and one Test for his country. He boasts an impressive first-class bowling record, he has 376 wickets at an average of 19.69 from 71 matches.
Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "With Saeed Ajmal's situation, it is always difficult with so much international cricket being played around the world and suddenly tours do come around.
"But we are very happy with Senanayake, a proven international player. He has played a lot of games in the shorter formats for Sri Lanka, not a lot of the Test matches, but his first class record is excellent.
"I try to sign hungry players because if they've got a desire to succeed and improve themselves then they are the right person for Worcestershire."
