Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake has expressed interest in playing cricket for Yorkshire at the end of an esteemed athletics career.

An Olympic silver medallist over 100 and 200 metres, the 24-year-old Blake has effectively earmarked a change in competitive sports before turning 30.

"I'm okay, you know – I can make the England team. I'm good in the outfield so they would probably pick me for that as well," he told BBC Radio Five.

"I've been wanting to play for Yorkshire or in England so, after running, definitely I'll put my mind to that."

Record-breaking Olympian Usain Bolt was tipped for a contract with the Melbourne Stars in Austraila's Big Bash League in 2012 – but that never materialised.

Indian batsman Virat Kohli, meanwhile, will be supporting Germany during the 2014 football World Cup in Brazil.

Germany, who won the title in 1954, 1974 and 1190, have been pooled with Portugal, Ghana and the United States of America this year.

"This time I am really rooting for them, Germany, because they have got one of the most dangerous sides in the world. Hopefully this will be Germany's year," PTI quoted Kohli as saying.

The Germans recently announced a formidable preliminary squad for the esteemed showpiece, which will be hosted by Rio De Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador and surrounds between 12 June and 13 July.

Talented teenagers Leon Goretzka and Max Meyer have been included in the 30-man collective – as well as Borussia Dortmund's Erik Durm, Sampdoria Shkodran Mustafi and Freiburg's Matthias Ginter. The team will be captained by left back Philipp Lahm.

"I like Lahm. I like his work ethic. Probably he is one of those guys who creates most of the space for Germany. Portugal's Christiano Ronaldo and Argentinian Lionel Messi are obviously on top of my list," added Kohli.

The right-handed Kohli is currently captaining the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League – which boasts lucrative contracts and win bonuses akin to those across international football.
