Younis to miss first Windies Test

Younis Khan has been ruled out of Pakistan’s first Test against West Indies. Doctors advised 10 days of rest after recovering from a bout of dengue fever.

The 38-year-old spent some time in hospital back in Karachi last month after contracting the mosquito-born virus.

A PCB spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo: “Younis has informed chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq that he won’t able to play the first Test.

“The selectors are yet to announce the squad, but its is confirmed that Younis will not take part in the opening game in Dubai. He asked for rest to be fully fit before his national selection since he has recently recovered from dengue.”

Younis has played 41 successive Pakistan Tests since 2011 when he last sat out against the West Indies at St Kitts.

The first Test will see both teams first taste of pink ball cricket with the series opener being contested as a day/night Test in Dubai.

Pakistan will be hoping for a whitewash in this series to keep the rankings pressure on top side India, with both teams facing a tough schedule in the next few months.
