Recollecting the only 12 double centuries in ODIs – 3 are owned by 1 man – as world cricket awaits No. 13 in 2025

In the history of ODI cricket there have been 12 knocks that have reached, or gone past, the 200-mark.
That’s some fearsome batting. Sachin Tendulkar was the first to do it, back in 2010 when he pummelled South Africa in Gwalior.
Let’s look at the 12 ODI innings of 200 runs or more.
12. Sachin Tendulkar (India): 200 not out vs South Africa in Gwalior, 2010
The knock that started it all. Tendulkar’s unbeaten 200 off 147 balls was a masterclass in control, placement, and timing.
Facing a potent South African attack that included Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Wayne Parnell and Charl Langeveldt, the Little Master became the first man to reach the mythical double century in ODI cricket, anchoring India to 401/3. It was a monumental moment in the history of the game.
11. Glenn Maxwell (Australia): 201 not out vs Afghanistan in Mumbai, 2023
The Big Show, Glenn Maxwell, who has recently announced his retirement from ODI cricket, played an innings that can only be described as miraculous.
With Australia floundering at 91/7 chasing 292 in a World Cup match, Maxwell defied injury and logic to score an unbeaten 201 from just 128 balls. He combined brute strength with outrageous innovation, scripting perhaps the greatest ODI comeback of all time.
10. Shubman Gill (India): 208 vs New Zealand in Hyderabad, 2023
The prodigious Indian opener showed maturity beyond his years, smashing 208 in a closely contested match. His knock came off 149 balls and included 19 fours and nine sixes.
Gill became the youngest Indian to reach a double ton, continuing India’s legacy of producing batting giants. Seven of the innings on this list were made by Indian batsmen.
9. Rohit Sharma (India): 208 not out vs Sri Lanka in Mohali, 2017
Captaining the side in Virat Kohli’s absence, Rohit made his leadership count with a serene, unbeaten 208. It was his third double century, and he paced the innings with surgical precision.
Rohit’s 153-ball knock was punctuated with 13 fours and 12 sixes. Sharma is the only player to have reached 200 more than once.

8. Rohit Sharma (India): 209 vs Australia in Bengaluru, 2013
Rohit’s first entry into the 200-club came against a strong Australian side that featured James Faulkner, Shane Watson and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
He unleashed a six-hitting blitz, smashing 16 sixes (then a world record in ODIs) on his way to 209 off 158 balls. His innings powered India to 383 and a memorable series win.
7. Ishan Kishan (India): 210 vs Bangladesh in Chattogram, 2022
Coming in as a replacement opener, Kishan made the most of his chance with an explosive 210 off just 131 balls – the fastest double century in ODI history.
He dismantled the Bangladesh attack with 24 boundaries (10 sixes and 14 fours), making a compelling case for permanent inclusion.
6. Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka): 210 not out vs Afghanistan in Pallekele, 2024
Sri Lanka’s rising star delivered the nation’s first-ever ODI double century in a brilliant display of orthodox and power-hitting skills. Nissanka remained unbeaten, crafting his 210* from 139 balls, including 20 fours and 8 sixes.
It was a historic day for Sri Lankan cricket – although it was far from a hiding for Afghanistan who only ended up losing by 42 runs after excellent centuries from Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi.
5. Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan): 210 not out vs Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, 2018
Fakhar became the first Pakistani to breach the 200-mark in ODIs with this unbeaten knock. His 210* off 156 balls came in a record-breaking opening stand and was filled with elegant cover drives and calculated lofts.
Pakistan posted 399/1 in a totally dominant performance. Imam-ul-Haq made 113 in an opening stand of 304.
4. Chris Gayle (West Indies): 215 vs Zimbabwe in Canberra, 2015
The Universe Boss made World Cup history with the tournament’s first ever double ton.
Gayle blasted 215 off 147 balls with 16 sixes and 10 fours, as the Windies posted a mammoth 372. The innings exemplified Gayle’s brutal, match-winning potential and led to a 73-run win.
3. Virender Sehwag (India): 219 vs West Indies in Indore, 2011
Sehwag batted like only he could – fearless and relentless. His 219 came off 149 balls and featured 25 fours and seven sixes. At the time, it was the highest score in ODI history.
It helped India post 418 and was a typical Sehwag special: merciless from ball one. India went on to win the game by 153 runs.
2. Martin Guptill (New Zealand): 237 not out vs West Indies in Wellington, 2015
This epic knock remains the highest score in a World Cup match.
Guptill batted through the innings, scoring an unbeaten 237 off 163 balls, with 24 fours and 11 sixes. His late-innings acceleration saw New Zealand post 393 in a World Cup quarter-final.
1. Rohit Sharma (India): 264 vs Sri Lanka in Kolkata, 2014
The highest individual score in ODI cricket history. Rohit started slowly, reached his century in 100 balls, and then exploded, scoring 164 in his next 73 balls.
He hit a staggering 33 fours and 9 sixes. His 264 remains a record for the ages, setting an almost unthinkable standard in ODI batting.
