Afghanistan achieve historic win at WT20

Afghanistan posted a total of 123 for seven and then restricted the West Indies to 117 for eight to achieve an historic six-run win in the World T20 Super 10s in Nagpur on Sunday.

It was the Asian side's first victory over a Test nation other than Zimbabwe and their players celebrated in joyous scenes on the field after the game.

The win was achieved on the back of some outstanding bowling from the Associate side who kept the big-hitting Windies batsmen in check throughout the innings.

Off-spinner Mohammad Nabi was the hero though as he bowled the final over of the innings with the Caribbean side needing 10 runs to win.

Nabi bowled two dot balls to Carlos Braithwaite and then had the allrounder caught in the deep to virtually seal the game as Samuel Badree and Andre Fletcher could not get the required runs.

Najibullah Zadran was the hero with the bat in the first innings, hitting a vital unbeaten 48 as Afghanistan posted a useful score after the Windies won the toss and sent their opposition in.

Although the victory will mean a lot to Afghanistan and will do wonders for their cricket, the Windies will still finish on top of group one in the Super 10s after winning three of their four games.

The Caribbean outfit will now get themselves ready for a semifinal showdown against host nation India or Australia in Mumbai on Thursday.
