Allround Pakistan comfortably see off Sri Lanka

Pakistan completed a comfortable 29-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first of two T20 matches in Colombo on Thursday thanks to a solid allround display by their batsmen and bowlers.

The visitors, who won the toss and chose to bat, posted a commendable score of 175 for five in their 20 overs before restricting the hosts to 146 for seven.

Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik top-scored with 46 for Pakistan with Malik not out at the end of the innings.

None of the Sri Lanka batsmen could capitalised on the starts they got with debutant Dhananjaya de Silva and Chamara Kapugedera top-scoring with 31.

Left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir took three wickets but it was an allround bowling effort from Pakistan that secured the win.

The second and final T20 will be played at the same ground on Saturday with Pakistan having already won the Test and ODI series.
