Batsman David Miller started what seamer Sandeep Sharma completed, as the Kings XI Punjab defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 32 runs in Friday's key Indian Premier League fixture at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Miller completed a quickfire 66, featuring all of eight fours and a trio of sixes, across just 29 deliveries to lead the Mohali franchise to a formidable total of 198 for eight.

Openers Mandeep Singh, Virender Sehwag and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, meanwhile, weighed in with a brisk 21, 30 and 25 to bring a collective cosmopolitan complement to Miller's cameo.

Sandeep later cherished telling figures of three for 25 in four outstanding overs, which a long way in restricting Bangalore to a very insufficient 166 for nine. The Man of the Match's haul included the dismissals of the dangerous Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli.

The 20-year-old Shivam Sharma, on Twenty20 debut, aided his namesake by removing South African all-rounder Albie Morkel and the talented Yuvraj Singh in quick succession.

The result consolidated the Kings XI Punjab's lead in the eight-team standings, while the Royal Challengers are in sixth position. Saturday's IPL fixtures will see Delhi and Hyderabad meet at the Feroz Shah Kotla and Mumbai and Chennai clash at the Wankhede Stadium.
