Chennai Super Kings secured a resounding 93-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in a one-sided contest in Abu Dhabi, as Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni played starring roles.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Super Kings got off to a steady start before Raina arrived and compiled a quick-fire 50 to get the innings moving.
While Brendon McCullum hinted that Chennai might attack from the first ball considering their strong line-up, they chose instead to once again bide their time.
They were 34/1 after the end of the Powerplay and 65 for 1 after 10 overs.
But following Raina's contribution, Dhoni, Faf du Plessis and Mithun Manhas combined well at the death to add 58 more runs off the last four overs.
Dhoni in particular proved effective, smashing 32 off just 15 deliveries to help Chennai to a very competitive 177/7.
Jaydev Unadkat was Delhi's most effective bowler, picking up 3 for 32 off his four overs.
The Daredevils' set out to chase down the imposing total, but were never really in the game.
While Chennai's bowlers all performed well and the quicks tied the Delhi batters down, it was a couple of moments of inspirational fielding that really sealed the Daredevils' fate.
Raina and Du Plessis both displayed moments of brilliance in the field, taking a couple of blinders to prevent the opposition from ever being able to settle down in the run chase.
The Delhi middle order capitulated without much of a fight, and with the required rate ballooning, wickets continued to tumble until the chasers were dismissed for a paltry 84.
The 93-run victory was Chennai's biggest IPL win to date.
