First Galle day washed out completely

The first day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Galle was rained off without the toss conducted, or even the teams leaving their hotel, adding to sub-continent fans' misery.

With the Test between Bangladesh and India all but washed away in Fatullah last week, fans were hoping for some good weather, but the monsoon season over the region denied this once again.

The covers were on overnight, and never left the ground at all as the staff never made a move to do so, until an inspection just before 2pm local time saw the umpires call it a day.

As such, play is set to start a bit earlier on day two, provided the weather plays along, to try and make up some of the overs.
