India win T20 thriller despite Watson ton

Suresh Raina struck a four off the final ball of the match to guide India to a seven-wicket victory over Australia in the third and final T20I in Sydney on Sunday and made sure the visitors went home having done the clean sweep over their hosts.

Chasing an imposing target of 198, India got off to a flying start as openers Shikhar Dhawan (26) and Rohit Sharma (52) put on 46 within the first four overs before Shane Watson struck for the hosts.

Virat Kohli kept the Asian side up with the required run-rate as he hit 50 off 36 balls, his third fifty of the series, but was bowled by legspinner Cameron Boyce in the 15thover.

Raina and Yuvraj Singh combined though to get India to within striking distance of the Aussies, the visitors needing 19 runs from the final over to be bowled by seamer Andrew Tye.

Yuvraj struck a four and six off the first two balls and the left-handed Raina finished the game with a boundary over backward point when one run needed as India finished on 200 for three.

Watson struck the second highest ever score in T20I cricket as he blazed his way to an unbeaten 124 off just 71 balls, which included 10 fours and six sixes.

The innings from the stand-in Australia captain was the cornerstone as the home posted a formidable 197 for five in their 20 overs.

After losing the five-match ODI series four-one, India will be happy that they have left their mark on the shortest format of the game Down Under.
