The Kings XI Punjab stayed in the hunt for a play-off place after beating the Delhi Daredevils by seven runs on Thursday, with David Miller's quick-fire 44 the deciding factor for Adam Gilchrist's side.

TheKings recorded 171 for four in their 20 overs, with Gilchrist himself chipping in with a swashbuckling 42 off 26 balls. He was the first to fall, with the score on 60, when he was caught and bowled by Irfan Pathan.

From there it was Shaun Marsh who continued the task, overcoming the loss of Azhar Mahmood for nine to then join forced with Miller. The pair put on 34 together in little over four overs, before Marsh fell to Morne Morkel for 45.

Miller then batted with Rajagopal Sathish, and the Indian batsman contributed 22 off 13 balls. Miller made sure of the decent score by hitting four sixes in his knock, using just 26 balls as his form continued unabated.

The Daredevils, still languishing second from the bottom on the table, did not get off to a good start, losing three wickets for just 12 runs in the first five overs. Unmukt Chand, Pathan and David Warner were all failures, with Sandeep Singh taking the latter two out.

Sandeep also bagged skipper Mahela Jayawardene's wicket, as the opener struggled to chivvy his troops towards a win by making a rather slow 39 off 42 balls. He was eventually dispatched in the 17th over.

Ben Rohrer tried to keep the chase going, bashing an eye-catching 49 off 29 balls at the death, but once he was bowled by Piyush Chawla the game was over, leaving Morne Morkel to hit a lusty six and then fall on the final delivery for 13.
