David Hussey's monstrous 65 and Gurkeerat Singh's superb late charge saw the Kings XI Punjab pull off an epic run chase against the Deccan Chargers on Sunday night.

It left the Chargers to reflect on yet another inept bowling display, as they posted a challenging 190 for four but again failed to make it count.

Poor death bowling was partly to blame, but Hussey and Singh also deserved credit for pulling off such an unlikely chase after the hosts had been 11 for one after three overs and then 102 for four after 13.

Hussey's five sixes kept them in the game though, even as wickets fell periodically, and the Kings XI went into the last over requiring an unlikely 16 runs to win.

That was when Singh came to the fore, as he smashed Manpreet Gony for two fours and a six to take the Punjabi side home off the final ball of the match.

The Chargers batting was once again reliant on Shikhar Dhawan and Cameron White, who have both had solid seasons in a disappointing Deccan campaign, as the pair put on a 96-run partnership in 10 overs to take the initiative from the Kings XI.

Dhawan had put on 47 in an aggressive opening stand with Parthiv Patel, but the latter's dismissal allowed the Kings XI to reclaim control as the home side quickly got rid of the out-of-form Kumar Sangakkara.

However that brought White to the crease, and he and Dhawan soon found their rhythm to take Deccan through a prolific middle-overs period, in which they were fortunate to see a number of catches dropped by the Kings XI.

Dhawan struck three sixes in his 71 before he was finally pouched by Parvinder Arwana off the bowling of Praveen Kumar.

That brought Daniel Christian to the crease, and he provided the perfect late boost to the Deccan total as he smashed two quick sixes to score 24 from just 10 balls.

Meanwhile White continued to find the boundary, and eventually finished unbeaten on 67 from 41 balls as the Chargers posted their second highest total of the season.
