The Kings XI Punjab consolidated an impressive lead at the helm of the 2014 Indian Premier League standings on the back of a comfortable 23-run triumph over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday.

A relatively modest total of 132 for nine, which would have read considerably less were it not for opener Virender Sehwag's standalone 37, didn't promise a fourth consecutive victory for the Mohali franchise this year.

An outstanding performance from the bowling attack, however, restricted the Knight Riders to an insufficient 109 all out. A batting order lined with international and local stars in South African Jacques Kallis and Australian Chris Lynn and Indians Yusuf Pathan and Robin Uthappa disappointed.

Seamer Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the triumphant attack, snaring telling figures of three for 21 in four tight overs – and the Man of the Match accolade. Aussie pace ace Mitchell Johnson and left-arm spinner Akshar Patel, meanwhile, each contributed a key brace each.
