Morgan does the business in warm-up
Eoin Morgan saw England home with an unbeaten 81 in a fifty over warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI at Drummoyne Oval.
The CA XI set England a target of 259 to win with opener Travis Dean top scoring with 62 off 63 balls.
17-year-old Number six Mackenzie Harvey impressed with a brisk 59 off 48 balls that included three sixes off Mark Wood.
England’s best bowlers were Adil Rashid (3 for 45), Moeen Ali (2 for 28) and Liam Plunkett (2 for 52) showing the value of spin and raw pace.
Joe Root was confined to the sidelines for the game which allowed 12 players to be fielded by either side.
England had solid top order contributions from Jason Roy (40), Jonny Bairstow (36) and Alex Hales (52) before Morgan saw them home.
Jos Buttler looked good for his 26 before Gabe Bell struck twice to give England a batch of nerves but Sam Billings (15*) would help the skipper close out the match.
The victory will provide a boost to the few Test players coming through into the ODI arena but you can’t read too much into these matches.
