The Mumbai Indians maintained their unbeaten record at home, and went top of the IPL table, thanks to a close victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad, winning by seven wickets and with three balls remaining.

Kieron Pollard was the hero for the Wankhede side, smashing 66 runs off 27 balls, including a six to bring up the win, after Mumbai seemed out of the chase. They needed 179 to win, and until the 16th over they didn't look like getting it.

The Hyderabad bowlers had done a superb job to restrict the runs, if not take wickets, with Dale Steyn going for just 23 runs in his four overs. But Thisara Perera had a nightmare 17th over, conceding 29 runs, including three of Pollard's eight sixes.

It was downhill from there as Pollard and Rohit Sharma bagged the runs, needing just seven off the final over. It was Perera who bowled it, and Pollard smashed two sixes, five more runs than required, just to rub salt in the wound.

Earlier on, the Sunrisers had done a commendable job with the bat, making 178 for three thanks to 59 from Shikhar Dhawan and 43 not out from skipper Cameron White. Hanuma Vihari and Parthiv Patel also contributed, with 41 and 26 respectively.

The Mumbai knock started slowly, with Sachin Tendulkar and Dwayne Smith not going as rapidly as they'd have liked. The West Indian was out for 21, bowled by Ishant Sharma in the fourth over, leaving Dinesh Karthik to join the Little Master.

The pair put on 68 runs together before Tendulkar had to retire hurt with his score on 38, having picked up what looked like an injury to his palm, leaving him unable to grip his bat. Ambati Rayudu was quickly sent packing, leaving Pollard and Sharma to sort out the win.
