Pakistan sweep past Hong Kong emphatically

Asia Cup 2018

Pakistan’s bowlers set up a simple chase that would end in an eight wicket victory over Hong Kong in the second match of the 2018 Asia Cup.

Hong Kong skipper Anshuman Rath won the toss and elected to bat first but might soon have rued that decision as his team found themselves in trouble early.

Rath was involved as Nizikat Khan (13) was the first man to go run out by Shadab Khan but his opening partner only had himself to blame.

Hong Kong were 32 for 2 as Rath (19) rather tamely nicked off to Faheem Ashraf in the ninth over of the innings and things would soon get worse.

With blood in the water Sarfaraz Ahmed introduced Shadab to the attack and he would have Hong King lynchpin Babar Hayat stumped shortly after Christopher Carter popped a tame catch to extra cover off the bowling of Hasan Ali.

Kinchit Shah (27) and Aizaz Khan (26) put on the only fifty partnership for Hong Kong adding 53 for the sixth wicket but from 97 for 6 they would slide to 116 all out with Usman Khan (3/19) running through the tail to end as the pick of the bowlers.

In reply Imam-ul-Haq guided Pakistan home with a solid unbeaten fifty aided by 24 from opening partner Fakhar Zaman and 33 from Babar Azam.

Shaoib Malik had joined Imam at the crease when Pakistan cruised past the 117 they needed to win in the 24th over of the chase.

Ehsan Khan (2/34) was the only Hong Kong bowler to take a wicket.
