Pakistan continued their preparation for the Champions Trophy with a sound six-wicket triumph over South Africa in Monday's warmup fixture at The Oval in London.

The sub-continental unit restricted the Proteas to a modest 202 for nine, and later reached the target with all of 27 deliveries to spare – thanks largely to half-centuries from opener Imran Farhat and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez.

The South Africans' total would have been considerably worse were it not for all-rounder Ryan McLaren's 55 and the left-handed JP Duminy's complementary 43. Seamers Wahab Riaz and Asad Ali were the pick of the bowlers, both snaring figures of three for 30.

Pakistan's pursuit was a reasonably comfortable affair, and cherished the absence of Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn, who left the field after delivering a mere five overs amid recurring back pain.

Farhat scored 56, while Hafeez weighed in with 54. Middle-order batsmen Umar Amin and skipper Misbah-ul-Haq ultimately capped victory with 27 not out and 24 not out respectively.

Tuesday will bring practice matches between Australia and India in Cardiff and Sri Lanka and West Indies in Birmingham. The tournament proper will get underway on Thursday.
