Piedt wraps up victory for SA ‘A’ in Bulawayo

South Africa spiner Dane Piedt claimed three of the remaining five wickets on the final morning as South Africa A secured a 1-0 series win over Zimbabwe A with an innings victory in the second four-day Test in Bulawayo on Monday.

The tourists needed just 16 overs on day four to dismiss the hosts, who were following on, for 133 to triumph by an innings and 81 runs.

Proteas spinner Piedt was the second innings star after bagging 4/19 in 7 overs.

Andile Phehlukwayo followed up his six wickets across both innings on day three by adding another on day four. His figures of 5/62 and 2/20 gave him a match analysis of 7/82, the best of his career.

Keshav Maharaj did not bowl on the last day finished with 3/37, while the other wicket went to Vernon Philander (1/21).

South Africa A’s next assignment is a trip to Australia to face their A team in two four-day Tests, the first of which begins on July 30.

That will be followed by a one-day series against the host, India A, and a National Performance Squad.
