The P.Saravanamuttu Stadium hosted Sri Lanka's first Test, against England in 1982 while it was also the scene of the Sri Lanka's first Test victory, against India.

Last Time Out
The last Test at the ground saw Sri Lanka play host to New Zealand in the second Test of a two-match series.

Sri Lanka never got close as they were bowled out for 195, with Southee and Trent Boult taking three wickets each, to give the visitors victory by 167 runs.
Southee said: "It's definitely a new-ball wicket, and if you can grab a couple with the new ball, then it makes it easier to make inroads into the batting line-up. It's not as easy when the ball gets older, and that can affect the team."
Mahela Jayawardene said: "It's a very sporting wicket. Sometimes, on day one it assists the fast bowlers more than any other wicket in Sri Lanka, but I think it is a very good Test wicket."

Kumar Sangakkara is the leading runscorer at the venue. In 10 Tests at the venue Sanga has amassed 821 runs including four fifties and two centuries with a highest score 200 not out.
The top wicket-taker at the P.Sara Oval is the spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who took 52 wickets at the venue in just nine matches including four five-wicket hauls.
