The last Test at the ground saw Sri Lanka play host to New Zealand in the second Test of a two-match series.

They Said

Southee said: "It's definitely a new-ball wicket, and if you can grab a couple with the new ball, then it makes it easier to make inroads into the batting line-up. It's not as easy when the ball gets older, and that can affect the team."

Mahela Jayawardene said: "It's a very sporting wicket. Sometimes, on day one it assists the fast bowlers more than any other wicket in Sri Lanka, but I think it is a very good Test wicket."

Happy Hunting Ground

Kumar Sangakkara is the leading runscorer at the venue. In 10 Tests at the venue Sanga has amassed 821 runs including four fifties and two centuries with a highest score 200 not out.

The top wicket-taker at the P.Sara Oval is the spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who took 52 wickets at the venue in just nine matches including four five-wicket hauls.

Weather Forecast

Sadly rain is forecast to fall in the late afternoon of all five days a it is sill monsoon season. Let's hope it is just passing showers.

All the Test matches at the ground seem to be good cricket wickets, a good batting deck with assistance for both the pacers and the spinners.

It seems as if the trend is to win the toss and bat first however the one time in the last 10 matches where the seide has won the toss and bowled they actually won the game.
