The inclement weather had not relented by the scheduled toss at 10:30 local time (09:30 GMT), with umpires Steve Davis and Aleem Dar were yet to inspect conditions.

England are likely to name an unchanged XI on day two, while the visitors will field an all-seam attack in the wake of spinner Bruce Martin's calf injury.

The hosts lead the two-match series on the back of a 170-run triumph in the first Test at Lord's last week.
