Record breaker Rahul leads India to victory

India opener KL Rahul was the star of the show in Harare, becoming the first India batsman to record a ton on ODI debut as he led the side to a nine wicket win over Zimbabwe in the first game of the series.

Rahul hit a six off what became the final ball of the game to bring up his 100 on the dot, as he scored the bulk of the 169 runs required. Earlier, Zim had been bowed out for 168.

India won the toss and elected to field on the traditionally slow deck, putting faith in their ability to chase despite being without most of their first string players.

Zimbabwe lost wickets at regular intervals, with no-one in the top six making more than 23. The top score was from former skipper Elton Chigumbura, who made 41 off 65 balls.

He was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, who continued his excellent start to his international career by taking four wickets. He bagged two wickets in the final over of the first innings to ensure a simple chase.

India only lost one wicket in the second dig, that of Karun Nair who was out for seven. Rahul and Ambhati Rayudu, who ended on 62 not out, took their time, taking no risks, as they recorded the win.
