Stiaan van Zyl scored an unbeaten century to help South Africa A press ahead on day two of the second four-day Test against Zimbabwe A, but the hosts were fighting back by stumps in Bulawayo on Saturday.

Proteas opener Van Zyl continued to impress in the middle-order, following up his 73 and 43 not out in the first Test with an excellent 133 (163 balls, 12 fours) that allowed the visitors to declare on 570/6 at the Queens Sports Club.

It was his 18th first-class century and was built around strong support from Qaasim Adams 63 (76 balls, 8 fours) and Dane Vilas 48 (30 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes).

By the close, however, the Zimbabweans had replied strongly with 213/3, closing the deficit to 357.

Their hero was opener Prince Masvaure after he notched up just his second career century and highest first-class score of 104 (198 balls, 13 fours).

The left-hander was unbeaten at the end of the day and had shared an unbroken stand of 90 for the fourth wicket with Craig Irvine (40).

Zimbabwe had faced 64 overs with one wicket each for the three new faces in the side, Andile Phehlukwayo (1/25), Duanne Olivier (1/28) and Keshav Maharaj (1/56).
