Warner’s Sunrisers halt Gujarat’s train

The Sunrisers Hyderabad got their second victory of this season's Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign when they cruised to a comfortable 10-wicket win over the previously unbeaten Gujarat Lions in Rajkot on Thursday.

Chasing a modest target of 136, Sunrisers captain David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan both hit unbeaten half-centuries as the men in orange put the IPL debutants to the sword.

The left-handed Warner struck 74 not out from 48 balls while India batsman Dhawan returned to some form with an unbeaten 53 off 41 balls as the Sunrisers won with more than five overs to spare.

Earlier, the Gujarat Lions, who loss the toss and were sent in to bat, got off to the worst possible start when Aaron Finch was bowled by seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the first over without a run on board.

Lions skipper Suresh Raina and Brendon McCulllum (18) put on stand of 56 for the second wicket but there was no support from the rest of the batting order as Gujarat posted a sub-par total of 135 for eight in their 20 overs.

The left-handed Raina though was leading by example with the willow, striking 75 off 51 balls, before he was out in the last over going for a big shot.

Kumar, after the early scalp of Finch, was the pick of the bowlers taking four for 29 in four overs while Bangladesh paceman Mustafizur Rahman continues to impress with figures of one for 19 his four overs.

The Gujarat Lions will want to return to winning ways when they take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday while the Sunrisers play the Kings XI Punjab at home on Saturday.
