The 7 highest run-scorers in Pakistan v West Indies Tests

As the West Indies began their tour of Pakistan on Friday with a warm-up game against a Pakistan Shaheens side, the anticipation continues to build as the two sides prepare for their first Test series in Pakistan since November 2006.

They have of course played each other in the Caribbean since then, and there has also been a series in the UAE, but the 2025 series is the first time these two traditional powerhouses of Test cricket will face each other in Pakistan.

With that in mind, let’s take a moment to look at the seven players who have scored the most runs in Pakistan versus West Indies Tests that have been played in Pakistan. It’s an impressive list with a name that is perhaps a little surprising at the top.

7. Javed Miandad – 429 runs at 26.81

One of the all-time greats, Miandad had 16 innings at home against the West Indies.

With an average of just 26.81 he will almost certainly feel that he under-performed. With a highest score of 76, he passed 50 on four occasions but given that he retired with a Test batting average of 52.57, he should be higher on this list.

6. Desmond Haynes – 451 runs at 28.18

The legendary West Indies opener is another all-time great, revered for his partnership with Gordon Greenidge. Much like Miandad though, his average in Pakistan was well below the overall career average.

He retired with a batting average of 42.29, so although he scored plenty of runs in Pakistan it was more due to the number of innings he played (17). His highest score in Pakistan was 117.

5. Carl Hooper – 457 runs at 45.70

The prolific middle-order batsmen only played six games in Pakistan.

Twice not out and with a highest score of 134, he averages 45.70 in Pakistan with a substantial 457 runs to his credit.

4. Imran Khan – 470 runs at 33.57

The legendary allrounder and captain had 18 innings against the West Indies across 10 games.

Always a fierce competitor he boasts a top score of 123 at a healthy average of 33.57.

3. Viv Richards – 556 runs at 42.76

The Master Blaster is another all-time great of the game. A prolific batsman with a career average of over 50, his average in Pakistan was slightly lower than that, but it was nevertheless very healthy.

Viv Richards batted 14 times against Pakistan and recorded a highest score in the country of 120*.

2. Brian Lara – 626 runs at 48.15

No list of West Indian batting achievement would be considered complete without the great Brian Lara on it somewhere. The stylish left-hander is the holder of the highest score in Test cricket and, much as he was everywhere he went, he was prolific in Pakistan.

With a high score of 216 and a total of 626 runs from 13 innings it is hard to imagine who could have a better record than he does…

1. Mohammad Yousuf – 665 runs at 133.00

Topping the list is Mohammad Yusuf, the player who started his career as Yosuf Youhana before converting to Islam and changing his name. But that is an aside, the real story here is just how much Yousuf loved batting against the West Indies.

Not only is Yousuf the highest run-scorer in games between the two sides, but he has also played far and away the fewest innings out of any of the players on this list.
