Australia go down to England in Mumbai

Australia suffered an eight-wicket loss against England in the second match of the Twenty20 tri-series in Mumbai on Friday.

After losing the toss Australia was sent in to bat first, with opener Beth Mooney (4) dismissed with the score on 26.

The Southern Stars came in to the match on the back of a convincing victory over hosts India in the opening match.

Powerful cameos from Alyssa Healy (31) and Ashleigh Gardner (28) kept Australia on track but a flurry of wickets made the scoring more difficult.

Stand in captain Rachael Haynes compiled an important 65 off 45 balls as Australia reached 8-149 at the end of the innings.

Defending 8-149, Australia got an early breakthrough thanks to Megan Schutt who had debutant Bryony Smith (1) stumped after some quick thinking from Alyssa Healy.

When Delissa Kimmince bowled Danni Wyatt (18) three overs later the Southern Stars looked to have England on the back foot but a 116-run partnership between Tammy Beaumont (58*) and Natalie Sciver (68*) was enough to see their side home with three overs to spare.

Beaumont appears to be thriving on increased responsibility as she stands in for regular wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor behind the stumps and smashed a fifty having been promoted to number three.
