Scoring an impressive 61-runs against Australia, New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill has unfortunately been ruled out of the second ODI due to injury.

Initially injuring his hamstring against Bangladesh last month, the 30-year-old thought he recovered enough to feature against Australia in the Chappell-Hadlee One-day series.

However, it was too soon for him to return as the old injury reacted again against the Baggie Greens, with Black Caps coach Mike Hesson still optimistic he might play the third ODI.

“Martin felt tightness in his left hamstring while fielding and after being monitored over the last 24 hours its become apparent he won’t quite be ready for Napier,” New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said.

“He’ll remain with the team and we’ll continue to monitor him ahead of the third ODI in Hamilton.”

Guptill’s 61 helped New Zealand to a dramatic six-run victory in the first ODI as they took the lead in the three-match series.
