Aiden Markram will lead the South Africa A side in their two four-day matches against India A later this month.
Markram is currently in England with the Proteas team but has not featured in any of the international matches.
The squad to play India A also includes two other members of the Test squad, all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo and fast bowler Duanne Olivier.
Stephen Cook also returns to the SA A squad having been dropped from the Test team during the tour of New Zealand.
The one newcomer at this level is the leg spinner Shaun von Berg who had an impressive first class season in 2016/17 taking 32 wickets in just five matches at an average of 18.93 leaving him second on the wicket-takers list for his franchise behind Malusi Siboto, who claimed 33 scalps in eight matches.
South Africa can now claim impressive strength in depth in the spinning ranks with Dane Piedt also in the squad while Eddie Leie and Aaron Phangiso are waiting in the wings and all will be gunning for the spinning slot in the Proteas team currently occupied with aplomb by Keshav Maharaj.
“This is a very important series after the disappointing Test match against the England Lions earlier this year,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener Linda Zondi. “This is a golden opportunity for the players to show what they can do under conditions they know well against testing opposition.”
