Woakes suffers injury blow

England allrounder Chris Woakes has been struck by yet another injury while on tour in India, it has been revealed he has a small crack in his right thumb.

Woakes was subjected to some fiery fast bowling from India paceman Mohammed Shami with the right-hander being struck on the helmet before the very next ball reared up again and in an attempt to fend the ball off he was struck on the thumb.

The delivery not only injured Woakes but claimed his wicket as well with the deflection carrying through to India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel.

It is understood that Woakes went for an X-ray after the game which revealed a small crack.

Despite the injury and an ongoing knee injury England are hopeful Woakes will be fit for the fourth Test in Mumbai.

Stuart Broad missed the Mohali Test after sustaining a foot injury earlier in the series and Haseeb Hameed will be returning home to have surgery on his injured hand as England’s injury woes worsen.

No replacement for Hameed has been named and Woakes and Broad are set to remain on the tour.
