Australia seal series against India

Women's Cricket

Australia Women have taken an unassailable 2-0 series lead after defeating India by 60 runs in the second One Day International in Baroda.

Needing to chase down Australia’s 9-287, India made a strong start with opener Smriti Mandhana compiling an attacking 67 before Jess Jonassen (3-51) combined with Megan Schutt to halt the visitor’s momentum.

Australia persisted with the ball with Jonassen, Ellyse Perry (2-41) and Amanda-Jade Wellington (2-20) all claiming key wickets.

Opening bowling Megan Schutt was also impressive with the ball, claiming 1-24 from her 10 overs whilst
Nicola Carey (1-44) claimed her first international wicket as India were eventually bowled out for 227.

Having lost the toss and been sent into bat, Australia posted 9-287 with Nicole Bolton (84), Ellyse Perry (70*) and Beth Mooney (56) all registering half-centuries.

Australia made a steady start, reaching 2-130 before skipper Meg Lanning (24), Bolton and Rachael Haynes (0) were dismissed.

Mooney came to the crease and showed good intent and along with Perry, combined for a 96-run partnership.

A handy cameo from Nicola Carey (16) helped push the total past the 280-mark.

India came into the series against Australia in high spirits after putting the Proteas women to the sword on their recent tour of South Africa earning ODI and T20I series wins.
